I'm Helping Kids Be Mighty
Last year was one of the hardest our family has ever faced. In June 2024, our sweet Josie was admitted to BC Children’s Hospital, where she was diagnosed with an aggressive, high-grade ependymoma. Over the 8 months that followed, she endured two surgeries, 6 rounds of intense chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant.
Through every challenge, the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff at BC Children’s were by our side. Josie’s days were brightened by the Pet Therapy Program, Therapeutic Clowns from the MIRTH Unit, and the Child Life Program — all made possible through donor support. These programs gave her laughter, comfort, and moments of joy during the darkest days.
This year, we want to give back. We’re raising funds to support BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, ensuring that other families like ours continue to feel that same love and care when they need it most.
As the only hospital in BC devoted exclusively to kids, BC Children’s provides the specialized care that seriously ill kids need to fight their health battles.
Amazing progress has been made in improving children’s health care. But the fact is, there’s still more to do when it comes to taking on the biggest health threats facing our kids.
Your donation to my fundraising page will help advance care for kids across the province and support experts at BC Children’s Hospital in their quest to conquer childhood illnesses.
Thank you for your support.

Meet Josie
Tuesday 4th NovLast December, 3-year-old Josie was facing a rare, aggressive brain cancer. She had spent the last six months at BC Children’s and had undergone brain surgery, a long course of chemotherapy, and a stem cell transplant.
It was hard, but Josie’s bold, fiery spirit never broke. “Josie has experienced things no kid should have to,” said her mom, Jessica. “But she’s handled everything with so much strength.”
As Christmas approached, Josie’s immune system was particularly fragile. Not only would she have to stay at the hospital over the holidays, it still wasn’t considered safe to have visitors.
But Josie’s care team found a way to bring a little magic into her life. On Christmas Eve, they helped Josie leave milk and cookies out for Santa, and the next morning, Josie woke to find the best gifts of all: Christmas presents, and her dad and brother by her side. After weeks of separation, Josie’s family was whole again. Together they opened presents and shared a moment her parents will never forget.
“It wasn’t the same as being at home. But it meant so much that we could be together,” said Jessica.
One year later, Josie has overcome incredible odds. She’s at home with her family, learning ballet and playing with her attentive big brother. But her journey isn’t over. The nature of Josie’s cancer makes her future uncertain, which is why more needs to be done for kids facing devastating illnesses.
It’s world-class care providers and researchers, supported by passionate donors, that give families hope. This holiday season, that hope is moving Josie’s family forward. “Last year, Josie was so sick she couldn’t have a little Christmas tree in her hospital room,” said Jessica. “This year, we’re picking out the biggest tree we can find.”
