For the mighty kids & caregivers at BCCH

I'm running for our son Arend, who is living with a rare blood disorder called CGD. He was diagnosed at the age of 4 months by the small and mighty immunology team at BCCH. In March 2023, he received a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor. Sadly this treatment did not work completely as his engraftment of donor cells is not as high as it needs to be to be considered a cure.

Along the way and as a Ronald McDonald Family, we've met countless inspiring caregivers and mighty children. Not all are still here with us today, but every one of them will forever be remembered, and we will never forget how hard all these warriors fought. We are proud to be part of the T8 Avengers - a group of caregivers from Floor T8: Oncology/ hematology/BMT, truly the strongest and most giving people I've ever met.

BCCH has become a second home and we extend our deepest gratitude for everyone who not only works there, but compassionately walks alongside these horrific journeys.

Amazing progress has been made in improving children’s health care. But the fact is, there’s still more to do when it comes to taking on the biggest health threats facing our kids.

Your donation to my RBC Race for the Kids fundraising page will help advance care for kids across the province and support experts at BC Children’s Hospital in their quest to conquer childhood illnesses.

Thank you for your support.

With love, the Bothma's
