Wigs for Kids BC Fundraiser & Hair Donation

✨ Passing on the Magic ✨

As a big milestone birthday approaches, I’ve been thinking about ways to celebrate. I've decided I want to do something meaningful to mark the big occasion, which has led me to a rather large (and terrifying!) decision: I’m doing a big chop.

If you’ve seen me during the rare occasion of me having my hair down, you know my hair is super long. I spent years growing it out for my wedding so I could wear intricate Celtic braids all done completely with my own hair. It’s no secret that maintaining this much hair is a lot of work! However, it was definitely worth the patience and labor for how special my hair made me feel. It was the most beautiful I’ve ever felt and truly a magical moment for me. 

Now that my wedding is over, as much as I adore my hair, I feel it’s time to hand it off to someone who needs the magic more than me.

The Chop and the Why ✂️

For my birthday, I will be cutting off an estimated 12”-14” of my hair and donating it to Wigs for Kids BC. 

If you aren’t already aware, W4K is an incredible charity that provides free custom fitted human hair wigs to children who have lost their hair due to cancer or other serious life threatening illnesses.

I specifically chose to make this donation as it hits very close to home for me.

Cancer runs on both sides of my family. 

While I am incredibly blessed to have loved ones who are warriors and won their battles, I have unfortunately also lost people very close to me.
Additionally, I have watched friends go through the same devastating loss.
Knowing first hand the toll cancer takes on both patients and their support circle breaks my heart, and it is the driving force behind why I want to help in any way I can.

Why I Need Your Help 📣

Donating my hair is actually only half the battle!

Creating a custom fitted wig using human hair is incredibly labor intensive and expensive.

Each wig costs $1k to make. W4K provides their wigs completely free of charge so that families navigating their child’s health crisis have one less thing to worry about. However, because of this the charity relies heavily on financial assistance to cover costs. That’s why I am setting up this fundraiser alongside my hair donation!

My goal is to raise $1200  - $100 per inch of hair I cut off!

This will mean there will be enough to cover the cost of the wig creation, plus some additional funds to help W4K's other services.

Additional funds Wigs For Kids provides as funding for medications and feeding supplies that are not covered by MSP, transportation services to assist those without a vehicle get their children to necessary medical appointments and treatments, and cover travel expenses for those in remote areas of the province.

Let's Make Magic Together 💖

Every little bit helps for a child in need, so anything we can raise would be amazing. 

But I want to reach for the stars since we’re helping children feel confident, brave, and magical during one of the hardest times of their life.
