About Wigs for Kids

Wigs for Kids BC (W4K BC) helps kids living with cancer, live better.

A proudly volunteer-run organization, W4K BC provides funding to cover the cost of custom-made human-hair wigs for children and teens at BC Children's Hospital who have suffered hair loss due to cancer treatment or other serious illnesses. Donations to W4K BC also help families pay for medications and feeding supplies that are essential for treatment but not covered by their medical plan.

When a child has a serious illness it takes an enormous toll on the entire family–both emotionally and financially. The assistance W4K BC provides makes the family's burden a little lighter so they can focus more of their time and energy on caring for their sick child.

Donating my Hair to Wigs for Kid

Some acts of kindness stick with you and for me, I have always remembered a group of kids who shaved their hair off to donate it during an elementary school assembly. I didn't fully understand the cause at the time, but thought donating my hair was something I would love to do one day.

Well that day has finally come. After years of growing out my hair in advance of my wedding, my hair was REALLY long so I looked it up and committed to waiting a few more months for a cut and then taking off the length required to donate it to Wigs for Kids - a nonprofit that provides custom hair replacement systems to children who have lost their hair due to cancer or other medical conditions — completely free of charge to the child and their family.

How You Can Be Part of This

My hair donation is just one piece of the puzzle. Wigs for Kids also depends on financial donations to cover the cost of crafting and fitting each wig, which can run into the thousands of dollars per child — all provided to families at no cost.

That's where you come in.

I hope you will consider making a donation in support of this fundraiser. Every dollar goes toward putting a smile on a child's face and giving them back a piece of who they are. No amount is too small, and every contribution truly makes a difference.
