I'm Helping Kids Be Mighty
Powerful things happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose. Team Nicky was born from love, resilience and the belief that every child facing cancer deserves the very best chance. Today, that belief has helped achieve something extraordinary: the establishment of the Team Nicky Hospital Chair in Hematology, Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) at BC Children’s Hospital — the first-ever group-funded chair in the hospital’s history.
Thanks to the generosity and heart of this community, $5 million has already been raised to transform care for children with cancers and blood disorders. This milestone honours every donor who stood with us, and it marks the beginning of a legacy that will support kids and families for decades to come.
The spark behind this movement is the Cannon family — Kelly, Darren, Nick and Clive — whose courage and compassion have inspired thousands. Kelly’s connection to BC Children’s Hospital began long before Team Nicky existed, through years spent volunteering on the oncology floor. She witnessed firsthand the strength of families and the dedication of care teams. In March 2021, that world became her own when Nick was diagnosed with one of the rarest pediatric cancers — a diagnosis so unlikely it carried the odds of being struck by lightning three times. That lightning bolt became our symbol: a reminder of the shock, the fight, and ultimately, the community that rallied around Nick and his family.
Team Nicky showed up in every way — cheering Nick through his final round of chemotherapy, delivering meals, offering comfort, and standing shoulder to shoulder through the hardest moments. Now, that same spirit is fueling a monumental effort to change the future for children across BC and the Yukon.
The Team Nicky Hospital Chair provides annual funding to advance:

- Leading-edge technology and equipment
- Clinical research that pushes boundaries
- The recruitment and support of world-class experts
The $5M raised so far is a testament to what love, leadership and community can achieve. But the work ahead is vast — and the impact we can make together is even greater.
