Whistler Balding for Dollars 2025

Shave for the Brave

For ten years my Dad, Al Paul, participated in Balding For Dollars. I don’t remember it myself, but when I was three years old, I joined him and started to also shave my head with him. Together, for years, we were total hair farmers in the winter and bald by spring thanks to this event and all the people who supported us. Over the years, my uncles, cousins, and friends joined us in our “shave for the Brave” - and I like to think my dad was the one who started so many of his family and friends on this journey to learn about how hard it is to fight cancer and that the kids who have this disease need all the help we can give.

Balding for Dollars Whistler was  started 22 years ago by Dave and Wendy Clark. After 22 years they retired and somehow had this wild idea that a 14 year old could take over the annual event (let’s be honest, they also knew my mom would help). Well, I’m up for the challenge and hope to make them proud - and more importantly, continue their legacy of changing the lives of kids facing cancer.

Your donation will go directly to BC Children’s Hospital, helping kids from all over the province. But, cancer transcends lines drawn on maps, and as I think about the Sea to Sky community that I live in, I can guess that most of you know a kid in the who has been diagnosed with cancer. Think about them. Their parents. Their friends. I wish you didn’t know someone, but today you can make treatments for those children more accessible and potential cures a deeper reality. 100 dollars. Ten thousand smiles.

In June of 2021 my Dad died of brain cancer. But he fought it for ten years and I had the chance to get to know him. I miss him. So I’m getting over my stage fright and speaking up for Al Paul. And for all the kids who have to go to the Children’s Hospital and fight like my dad. I hope with my little effort here, and your generosity, they win.
