Help Make Us Mighty

As one of the world’s top pediatric hospitals, BC Children’s is leading the way in shaping the future of care. We’re making bold advancements in personalized medicine that target the root cause of a child’s illness. We’re determined to put an end to chronic conditions like diabetes and asthma that rob kids of the joys of childhood. We’re helping to change the odds for the most aggressive cancers—and ensuring children and teens receive timely access to mental health care.

By participating in the Festival of Trees, you’re bringing us closer to achieving our most ambitious goals for children’s health. Your contribution will fast-track breakthrough research, equip the hospital with advanced technologies and ensure kids receive care tailored to their unique needs.

Magic Maggie

Maggie was 10 years old when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, the same type of cancer Terry Fox had. Over 18 months she fought the cancer with treatments both inpatient and out while she was cared for by her team of specialists at BC Children’s Hospital. She came home just in time to finish grade 6 with her best friends. Unfortunately, less than 2 months later her cancer returned.

Maggie lost her battle with cancer in October 2024, just three days before her 12th birthday. Maggie’s family feels so grateful to BC Children's Hospital, the care she received was top notch. Her team was dedicated to providing care to Maggie that was caring, supportive, and personal. Childlife specialists helped make her hospital admissions bearable, with their understanding the needs kids have. Maggie found joy, when the hospital clowns visited her room, or when therapy pets came to visit. She also was supplied with the ingredients for slime - one of her favorite pastimes, and had an XBox in the room in the hospital.

Everyone who met her couldn’t believe that she was so sick, Maggie was a fighter, she wanted to beat cancer and she tried so hard. Everyday was spent living life to its fullest. This little tree here at the Delta showcases some of Maggie’s joys. She loved pickles, rainbows, ice skating, skate boarding, gummy bears, friendship bracelets, cows, and so much more.

The last week of her life was spent with her cousins doing activities, blowing out candles on early birthday cakes, smiling so much. She will always inspire those who knew her to remember what’s important in life: family, friends, and creativity.

Maggie makes us so proud everyday with her strong courageous spirit, she enjoyed life to the max and we all had hope and imagined a different ending.

Thank you BBCH and Delta Grand Kelowna.
