I've created this page in memory of my daughter Lauren Ana Tchir.
We lost Lauren on April 6th, 2026. She was 39 years old. Lauren had a life - a whole life . She loved to laugh, she loved music and singing and she loved her family. She was a good soul, a free spirit, and beautiful. But Lauren struggled from a very early age. She was dearly loved, but we didn't know how to help her. Lauren suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder, and had severe emotional disregulation that led to addiction and, ultimately, this tragic outcome which, as a family, we are struggling to understand and find acceptance. Lauren was undiagnosed until her mid 20's and remained untreated in a time when understanding BPD or how to treat it was still in its infancy. It's extremely common for people suffering from BPD to turn to temporary solutions to change how they feel. Those temporary solutions magnify the disorder and create a loop where the solution becomes the cause of greater challenges. We have started this donations page in tribute to my daughter in the hope that her passing has a purpose, that is to help young people, who suffer from extreme dual diagnosis, while they're young enough to begin a journey of recovery. That is our hope, to honor Lauren this way.
Our family would like to extend our overwhelming gratitude to those who have made a contribution in Lauren's name. We'd also like to thank the BC Children's Hospital for reaching out and helping us do something meaningful. We believe these donations to Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services will best be served through the Children's Hospital as they work diligently to fund research for long lasting solutions.
Sincerely,
Daniela Macdougall and
The Macdougall and Tchir families
