I'm Helping Kids Be Mighty
At just a young age, Eamonn Millar has already shown incredible strength, resilience, and compassion. As a patient at BC Children’s Hospital battling high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Eamonn has faced more challenges than most people experience in a lifetime. Throughout his treatment journey, he has turned to one of his greatest passions — art — as a source of comfort, creativity, and hope during some of the toughest moments.
But Eamonn’s story is not only about perseverance. It is also about giving back.
Inspired by the comfort and care he received at BC Children’s Hospital and by the many other children and families he met during treatment, Eamonn wanted to make a difference for kids facing their own medical journeys. Through a special partnership with RC Pets Ltd., Eamonn created limited-edition dog collars and leashes featuring his artwork, with proceeds supporting BC Children’s Hospital’s Pet Therapy Program.
For so many patients, therapy dogs provide comfort, joy, emotional support, and a much-needed distraction during long hospital stays and difficult treatments. This program holds a special place in Eamonn’s heart, and he hopes his initiative will help bring smiles and support to other children when they need it most. (Check out the RC Pets Blog below on how to purchase a Dreams Gone Wild collar and/or leash)
But Eamonn is not done yet.
Throughout his treatment, Eamonn’s classmates regularly sent him jokes to help bring laughter and light to some of the harder days. Those thoughtful messages became a source of comfort and connection during an incredibly difficult time. Inspired by their kindness, Eamonn began illustrating the jokes, combining humour with his love of art in a way that brought joy not only to himself, but to those around him.
Now, Eamonn has partnered with A Million Acts of Love to create a special Joke Book designed to share that same joy with children and families facing difficult medical journeys around the world.
Proceeds from this initiative will support Art Therapy within the Oncology, Hematology, BMT, and Psychology Department at BC Children’s Hospital — helping provide creative outlets, emotional support, and healing opportunities for children undergoing treatment.
The fundraiser will also support PROFYLE, an innovative program focused on advancing precision medicine for children with therapy-resistant cancers. Through molecular profiling, including genome and protein analysis, PROFYLE works to better understand an individual child’s tumour and identify targeted treatment options. This groundbreaking research helps connect patients to new therapies and early-phase clinical trials within a timeframe that can directly inform treatment decisions for children across Canada and beyond.
Through art, humour, and extraordinary courage, Eamonn is turning his own experience into hope for other children and families facing some of life’s hardest battles.
