Aubade with Joy – Richard Li’s Solo Classical Vocal Charity Concert
Presented by Firefly Youth Network, Aubade with Joy – Richard Li’s Solo Classical Vocal Charity Concert will take place on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 7:00–9:00 PM at the Chan Shun Concert Hall, the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC.
The concert brings together classical music, youth leadership, and community service in support of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Mighty Music Program, with a fundraising goal of $20,000.
At the heart of the evening is Richard Li, a Grade 12 student at St. George’s School in Vancouver and a young classical bass-baritone. As Co-President of Firefly Youth Network, Richard serves as the concert’s lead organizer, artistic director, and featured solo vocalist. He is a recipient of the American Protégé International Vocal Competition Judges’ Distinction Award and First Prize in Classical Repertoire, Opera Aria, and Folk/Traditional Repertoire, and has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Founded in Vancouver in 2021, Firefly Youth Network has grown from a small group of students into a youth-led nonprofit community of more than 100 members, using music and the arts to support charitable causes and serve the community. Through its Light of Hope and Melodies of Hope charity concert series and other outreach initiatives, Firefly has raised more than $31,700 CAD in support of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation and has also brought live music directly to children, families, and staff at BC Children’s Hospital.
Aubade with Joy will feature a rich program of English, German, Italian, operatic, and Chinese vocal repertoire, including works by Vaughan Williams, Richard Strauss, Mozart, Lehár, and other composers. Richard will be joined by the Oriental Philharmonic Student Orchestra, Oriental Philharmonic Choir, Oriental Philharmonic Chamber Choir, and guest artists, culminating in large collaborative performances with soloists, choir, and orchestra.
As the only hospital in BC devoted exclusively to kids, BC Children’s provides the specialized care that seriously ill kids need. While tremendous progress has been made in children’s health care, there is still more to do in addressing the greatest health challenges facing children.
Your donation will help advance care for kids across the province and support experts at BC Children’s Hospital in their quest to conquer childhood illnesses.
Through Aubade with Joy, Richard and Firefly Youth Network hope to turn a shared passion for music into meaningful support for children and families across British Columbia.
