I'm Helping Kids Be Mighty
As a proud cancer survivor I feel privileged to be able to give back to the facility that saved my life. BC Children’s Hospital holds an incredibly special place in my, my family’s, and my friends’ hearts. Giving back to the Oncology ward is one of my greatest joys in life. Throughout my time in treatment at BC Children’s there was one particular program that brought me immense joy and a sense of normality: Music Therapy. This program provides music therapy to patients who are in the hospital long-term or have many repeat visits such as the burn program, and the oncology clinic.
While going through treatment, I watched the incredible work that the Music Therapy program and Music Therapists brought to patients going through similar battles. It provides an escape and sense of normality for kids who are facing some of the biggest challenges you can imagine. As a fully donor-funded program, our goal is to provide them with much needed funding to keep this amazing program alive. The funding pays for the therapists who work directly with the patients and their families, at the bedside, supporting them through difficult experiences. Funding is needed to allow therapists more hours to meet with more patients.
On Friday November 13th, my incredible friends and I are hosting a night to give back and celebrate 25 incredible years of Music Therapy Program at BC Children’s Hospital. Hosted once again at the Pipe Shop in North Vancouver, our aim is to get together as a community and celebrate the fantastic work the Music Therapy Program does.
