Race For Our Friends
On June 11th, our Grade 3 and Grade 5 classes are participating in this year’s RBC Race for the Kids. We have a reason very close to our hearts for taking part in the event. Our good friends Tyson and Cooper Greaves, and Sarah and Emily Rodgers have spent a great deal of time at BC Children’s Hospital.Sarah & Emily
Over spring break, the Rodgers family were devastated with the news that Sarah has a very large brain tumor that needs to be operated on immediately. Sarah was a champion through a 12-hour surgery. The doctors were able to remove 75% of the tumor.
Sarah has faced surgery, multiple MRIs, the ICU, physiotherapy, etc. with incredible strength and courage. Sarah and her family were able to rest and recoup at home over the Easter weekend and celebrate her birthday.
Sarah will be starting the next phase of her treatment. She is preparing for radiation. Our friend Sarah is so strong.
Tyson & Cooper
In 2019, at five years old, Tyson was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. After two years of chemotherapy treatments and the amazing care he received at BC Children's Hospital, Tyson went into remission in August 2021.
Unfortunately, last summer, Tyson's family received the heartbreaking news that after only one year into remission, Tyson’s cancer had returned. Oncologists at BC Children’s Hospital quickly started chemotherapy treatment and concluded that Tyson needed a bone marrow transplant to help reduce the risk of the cancer returning.
Cooper, a direct bone marrow match, didn’t think twice about the decision to donate his bone marrow to save his little brother Tyson's life. Just three hours after his donor surgery, Cooper was awarded a medal from BC Children’s Hospital for his outstanding courage and strength.
Today, both Cooper and Tyson are doing great! Tyson has been recuperating at home since January and we are looking forward to his return to school in May.
