Lily and Franklin are neurosurgery warriors who have each endured multiple life saving procedures at BC Children’s Hospital, a place where dedicated medical professionals make miracles happen. These two are connected through their grandmothers (close friends more than fifty years). Surgeons operated on Lily in July and August of 2022 to remove a brain tumour, and then on Franklin in February 2023 and July 2023 for his hydrocephalus and shunt malfunction. Both rely on an incredible neurosurgery team for ongoing monitoring, scans, and procedures. 

 

Melissa and Luc, and Britt and Jeff have the unique but similar experience of rushing onto an emergency helicopter and landing at BCCH on the hardest days of their lives. For parents, this medical institution is a soft landing in an impossible time. A place you never want to have to go, but are grateful for when you get there. Every aspect of the family experience is considered, from the physical space to child-life programs, laundry, toys and a comfortable place to stay. BCCH is doing everything in their power to ease the burden of childhood illness for families in our province.

 

BC Children’s Hospital relies on private donations to fund many of aspects of these programs. The Mollberg and Shannon families feel immense gratitude and are committed to giving back. We hope you’ll join us by running and/or raising money alongside us through RBC Race for the Kids!

As the only hospital in BC devoted exclusively to kids, BC Children’s provides the specialized care that seriously ill kids need to fight their health battles.

Amazing progress has been made in improving children’s health care. But the fact is, there’s still more to do when it comes to taking on the biggest health threats facing our kids.
