Here we go!
After 8 month of frontline intensive chemo, lengthy hospital stays, invasive procedures, frequent appointments and many restrictions, Eva has made it to maintenance. . Evas next Cycle of chemotherapy, maintenance chemo, started on April 27, 2023. The idea is that lower doses of chemo are administered during once a month clinic visits which included lumbar punctures and Iv chemo along with daily at home. She can generally return to normal activities. The first month-3 months will be a trial to make sure the dosing is right and that she responds well. The cycles run in 3 months blocks. Every 3 months she will take 5 days of steroids and a couple of other medications. It will be an adjustment, but the idea is that it helps keep cancer cells from returning. Fevers are always considered medical emergencies , she will be keeping her port, there can be many side effects from the drugs and it will require us to be quite organized and attentive.
We can’t believe that we’ve reached this phase in her treatment, 8 months ago it seems like an unimaginable feat. Here we are helping our little warrior continue to fight. We love you and appreciate all of the encouragement, support and strength you’ve given us over the last 8 months. If there are any other updates we will let you know! ❤️ See you all on June 11th!
Why we’re running
Childhood Cancer- It is a reality, our reality. Eva has been the bright spot in our lives since she entered this world on July 27, 2020. In perfect Eva fashion, she came at her own time, arriving 4 weeks early with a quick and easy delivery. Two years full of love, adventure, laughs, growth and making memories. We couldn’t have imagined how much of an impact this little human had on us, on our whole family. A perfectly routine two year check up, we had some concerns about bruising, but it was quickly dismissed by our doctor or at the time. Eva carried on for that next month celebrating her second birthday, and enjoying the west coast summer. One thing we know for certain, Eva is surrounded by love, and some mighty guardian angles.We’re helping kids be mighty
As the only hospital in BC devoted exclusively to kids, BC Children’s provides the specialized care that seriously ill kids need to fight their health battles.
Amazing progress has been made in improving children’s health care. But the fact is, there’s still more to do when it comes to taking on the biggest health threats facing our kids.
