Oli’s Team

For Oli, and for Every Brave Child

My name is Avery and I am 16 years old. As a sister to a child with severe special needs, I’ve seen firsthand how brave children can be. I’m starting this team to give back to the hospital that cares for kids like my brother Oliver (Oli), and supports families like our every day. 

BC Children’s Hospital has been with Oli through every single step of his medical journey. It started with Oli having seizures as a six month old and soon after that, my family and I noticed that he wasn’t reaching his developmental milestones. At one years old, he still wasn’t rolling over or sitting.  When he was only two years old, his developmental delay caused delays in swallowing as well, resulting in his weight, being stagnant, and his care team at BC Children’s Hospital decided a G-tube was needed to help him grow. BC Children’s Hospital began investigating through genetic testing and when he was three years old, we found out that he has an extremely rare genetic disorder called Mosaic Variegated Aneuploidy Syndrome. 

BC Children's Hospital has supported Oli through many EEG's, ultrasounds, MRI’s, and has continued to help him today to try to support and ease his everyday life, which helps my family too. Because of BC Children’s Hospital, we as a family are able to give Oli his healthiest life possible. 

Oli now is in grade 1 and goes to school full time with support from his school team. 

My family (including Oli in his wheelchair (which we call his Bugatti)) and I will be running at RBC's Race for Kids on June 7th, 2026 and every runner and donation makes a difference.
