What BC Children's means to me
BC Children’s Hospital holds a very special place in my heart. When I was 15, I knew something wasn’t right. After losing 20 pounds, feeling constantly exhausted, and making trips to both my doctor and the ER, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
Almost overnight, my life changed. I was thrown into a new world of counting carbs, measuring food, finger pricks, insulin injections, and learning how to manage a condition I would live with every day. It was overwhelming, to say the least.
The diabetes educators and nurses at BC Children’s Hospital guided me through those early days with patience, compassion, and expertise. Their support helped me learn not just how to manage my diagnosis, but how to live fully with it. Eighteen years later, I’m still benefiting from the foundation they gave me—and that’s why this cause means so much to me.
